Training, Equipment, Accreditation and Records

Members of this unit receive specialized training and professional development that aligns with the highest professional standards and recognized best practices in law enforcement administration. The primary responsibilities include:

  • Training and professional development of all sworn personnel and civilian staff members
  • Coordination of state-required training with the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and local academies
  • Procurement and inventory of department equipment and fleet management
  • Policy recommendation and drafting in accordance with recognized accreditation standards
  • Evidence, property control and records management
  • Maintaining a respected and professional standing with internal and external organizations

This unit is unique to the department in that the members are highly skilled in police operations, information management and a variety of applicable statute and regulations. Their goals and objectives are met through the application of public administration principles, project management and strategic planning all while providing support to other department units.  The members of this unit work a Monday through Friday schedule during the day shift and a portion of the afternoon shift. Certain personnel maintain an “on-call” status in order to be available in the event of an emergency to support police operations and the university community.
