Investigations Unit

Investigations Unit

It is University of Illinois Chicago Police Department policy to maintain an Investigations function within its organizational structure to conduct thorough investigations of criminal activities occurring and/or reported on UIC grounds or where university interests are involved. In addition to conducting follow-up investigations for crimes that are reported on campus, the Investigations Unit also provides dignitary protection to university, governmental, and civilian dignitaries who visit the campus, conduct background checks for police officer candidates, and conduct threat assessments for subjects who may pose a potential threat to the university. The Investigations unit is responsible for maintaining professional relationships with other local Police Departments as well as Federal Agencies. The detectives in the Investigations Unit work a Monday through Friday schedule and are scheduled to work the day shift and the afternoon shift. A detective is scheduled to be on call overnight during the midnight shift and during the weekend providing coverage every day around the clock. Members of the Investigations Unit receive specialized training in many areas to ensure investigations are conducted with the highest standards of investigative expertise and integrity.

The Investigations Unit also has a police officer who is assigned to the UICPD/CPD Joint Robbery Task Force. The task force member works in conjunction with members of the Chicago Police Department’s 12th District, and they are tasked with conducting follow-up investigations in regards to robberies that are reported in the patrol boundaries of UICPD and the CPD 12th district.
