UICPD Evidence Technicians gathering evidence at a crime scene

It is the policy of the University of Illinois Chicago Police Department to thoroughly search crime scenes to obtain information from physical evidence through the application of scientific knowledge and methods. UIC Police Evidence Technicians are specially trained to identify, evaluate, collect, and preserve all physical evidence at the crime scene of an incident in which he/she is summoned to investigate. The Evidence Technician works in cooperation with the UICPD Investigations Unit to ensure the proper handling and recovery of any and all evidence. UICPD Evidence Technicians are certified through the Illinois Training and Standards Board’s 40-Hour Basic Evidence Technician Instructional Course. In addition, each Evidence Technician completes continuing education courses through the North East Multi-Regional Training Institute.
