Self-Defense for Women Workshops

UICPD/AWSDA Self Defense Class

Overview:

This free four-hour course is designed to introduce adult women participants (18 years and older) to basic techniques that she can use to defend herself physically and to win a fight in a dangerous or potentially lethal situation. This course focuses on building the student’s confidence in her ability to defend herself, and in encouraging a defiant and aggressive attitude toward an attacker.

GOALS

The main goals of the four-hour self-defense course are:

  1. Increase the student’s awareness of general violence prevention skills.
  2. Build the student’s confidence in her ability to fight back successfully against an attacker.
  3. Begin to develop the mindset of “no one has the right to put their hands on me.”
  4. Teach the student strategies and tactics that can be used to potentially prevent an attack.

UIC Students, Faculty, and Staff members are the first priority for the class. However, the course is open to the community.
