About
Deputy Chief Michael Batis is a law enforcement professional with over 26 years of experience in policing and investigations. He began his career with the Joliet Police Department in 1997, holding several positions that included Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Deputy Chief of Police. In these past positions, he attained a deep knowledge of community policing, criminal investigations, special operations, and the broad use of emerging technologies within law enforcement operations. He also held a position of Special Agent with the National Insurance Crime Bureau where he investigated a wide array of insurance fraud schemes in conjunction with law enforcement and prosecuting agencies.
Deputy Chief Batis graduated from The University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and earned an MBA from Benedictine University in Lisle, IL. Additionally, he graduated from Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, and the Senior Management Institute for Police at Boston University. He has professional memberships with the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), Illinois Tactical Officers Association (ITOA), National Technical Investigators Association (NATIA) and formerly with the Illinois Drug Enforcement Officers Association (IDEOA), and the Illinois Homicide Investigators Association (ILHIA).
Deputy Chief Batis is a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he honorably served as a Navigator of KC-130 aircraft from 1987-1993.
