About
Margaret Chiczewski has been a Police Officer with the University of Illinois at Chicago Police Department (UICPD) since January 2010. Margaret became a certified self-defense instructor through the American Women’s Self-Defense Association (AWSDA) in February 2018.
Margaret became involved with women’s self-defense because her true desire is to prepare and help women who may encounter a dangerous situation and how to deal with it effectively. Margaret recalled that she encountered dangerous situations prior to becoming a police officer and how fortunate/lucky she was that the situation wasn’t worse. “I wish I had a better plan and some self-defense training in those situations.” she said.
The University of Illinois at Chicago Police Department, American Women’s Self-Defense Association (AWSDA) program gave Margaret the opportunity to give other women some plans/ideas to recognize potential dangerous situations and to have a plan to avoid or mitigate them while teaching some basic self-defense. This is truly a worthwhile program offered by the University of Illinois at Chicago Police Department and Margaret is proud to be a part of it.
