About
Lieutenant Steven Hong was born in South Korea and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of four. He started elementary school as an ESL student in the Albany Park neighborhood of Chicago. In 2003, Lt. Hong graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University and has since earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Illinois Chicago. Prior to starting his career at UICPD, Lt. Hong was a police officer at Northern Illinois University and is a veteran of the United States Marine Corp.
Lt. Hong was sworn in as a UIC Police Officer in 2006. As a patrol officer, he served in various roles which included becoming an Evidence Technician, a Field Training Officer, and a Technical Services Officer. Lt. Hong would additionally serve as an instructor, and later as a one of the coordinators, for the Defensive Tactics, Evidence Technician, as well as the Tactics and Scenario Programs; eventually becoming the Sergeant of Support Operations.
Lt. Hong currently oversees the Patrol Operations Division. One of his major responsibilities is the supervision of nine (9) Police Sergeants and thirty-two (32) Patrol Officers who are assigned across three (3) shifts. The mission of the patrol division is to facilitate a safe learning and working environment for our students, faculty, staff, and our university community.
