Self-Defense for Women Workshops

Overview:
This free four-hour course is designed to introduce adult women participants (18 years and older) to basic techniques that she can use to defend herself physically and to win a fight in a dangerous or potentially lethal situation. This course focuses on building the student’s confidence in her ability to defend herself, and in encouraging a defiant and aggressive attitude toward an attacker.
GOALS
The main goals of the four-hour self-defense course are:
- Increase the student’s awareness of general violence prevention skills.
- Build the student’s confidence in her ability to fight back successfully against an attacker.
- Begin to develop the mindset of “no one has the right to put their hands on me.”
- Teach the student strategies and tactics that can be used to potentially prevent an attack.
UIC Students, Faculty, and Staff members are the first priority for the class. However, the course is open to the community.

Women who are interested in taking the UICPD Self Defense class, please send an email to uicpdawsda@uic.edu and request for your respective dates. Due to the popularity of the program, the classes fill up quickly. Please register as soon as possible. Keep in mind UIC students, faculty and staff members are first priority. However, the general public may take the class as well.
