Unarmed Contract Security
The University of Illinois Chicago Police Department’s commitment to promoting safety and preventing crime extends to the addition of unarmed contract security professionals. In collaboration with UIC Police, unarmed security personnel serve as a deterrent to potential criminal activities and also promote a sense of security. They are well-trained to observe any suspicious behavior or activity and report their observations to UIC Police.
To ensure comprehensive coverage across the university campus, unarmed contract security personnel are positioned at pre-determined entry and exit points, specific parking structures and open environments.

The UIC Police Department is located at 943 W. Maxwell Street, Chicago, Illinois 60608. The department is open 24/7, including weekends and holidays.
Question 3
Question 4
While unarmed security professionals are posted at pre-determined entry and exit points, there are open environments that require a roving presence to ensure comprehensive coverage. They monitor unusual activity, conduct security inspections and are trained to de-escalate situations. The combination of strategically placing unarmed security professionals at fixed posts as well as roving areas is fundamental to enhancing safety for staff, clients, patients, students, and guests. It also provides a balanced approach to security.
Question 5
In addition to a roving presence and pre-determined entry and exit points, unarmed security personnel also screen designated areas with additional state-of-the-art technology. UIC has invested in Evolv Express, which uses advanced sensor technology and artificial intelligence to provide an efficient and noninvasive screening process to detect potential threats while distinguishing common objects such as cell phones or keys. The advanced screening process helps eliminate potential bias in decision-making through an efficient secondary screening process, while also providing automated reports and actionable analytics to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Question 6
There are unarmed security professionals throughout all five multi-level parking structures. However, three designated parking structures are patrolled 24/7. Patrols are conducted at each parking platform/level, stairwell and elevator lobby at the University of Illinois Chicago.
Question 7
We highly encourage all individuals to approach security professionals with any safety concerns. All security professionals are well-trained to listen to concerns and determine whether a UIC police officer is needed for further assistance.
You do not need to speak to an unarmed security professional if you require assistance. Please call UICPD at 312-355-5555 for non-emergencies and 911 in emergencies.
Question 8
