UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES DISTRACTED DRIVING ENFORCEMENT RESULTS
NEWS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 12 May 2021

The University of Illinois Chicago Police Department (UICPD) announced it issued 11 hands-free law violations, one speeding violation, one seatbelt violation, and two arrests for Driving while License Suspended/No Valid Driver's License during the April Distracted Driving enforcement period.

During this campaign, officers also generated one report for failure to stop for the police. Officers did not pursue the vehicle in accordance with departmental policy. There was a follow up conducted by UICPD's Investigations unit, which lead to an arrest of the driver.

Using your phone in anything other than handsfree mode in Illinois is not only dangerous - it is illegal. That's why we continue to urge the public to "Drop it and Drive," said Lt. Christopher Ziegler, Lieutenant of Patrol.

UICPD joined forces with state and local law enforcement and highway safety partners for this enforcement effort. The Illinois Distracted Driving campaign is funded with federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
